Hey Posh Pals, today I am talking to you about the best Indian food I have had in Asia. I have been to places in Thailand, Vietnam, Dubai, India, and Malaysia to eat Indian food. Obviously, I haven’t tried it all – however, I have tried plenty, and this – THIS – was the best one yet. It’s super fancy, perfect for those birthday dinners/lunches (actually celebrated mother’s birthday here) and just right for you ladies who like Instagrammable spots. While it definitely is on the pricier end, I have seen more expensive places and had worse food and horrid decor, so like, I assure you, this is Desi food gold. But, it makes sense since it’s a fine dining restaurant, which are my personal favourite. Okay, okay, okay. I will share my secrets. Next time you are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you have to try this Indian restaurant.
Cholas by WTF – The Best Desi / Indian Food in Asia
Location: 2nd Floor, Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Jln Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur
Price for 2: 30 USD
Decor: Indian Heritage / Ethnic – lots of red and gold!
Dress Code: It’s literally located in a 5 Star Hotel, so please, dress accordingly. Formal / Semi Formal / Dressy!
What I wore: I wore a pair of flared off-white pants (formal) and a satin black shirt. I accessorised with a pain of earrings and a necklace, both in pearl.
The Experience of this Indian Food Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur
Atmosphere: Honestly, the vibes were elite. The lighting could have been a little better but the golden lighting and the selection of instrumental bollywood music from the 80s/90s was really magical. The atmosphere is incredibly posh, and at least at the time we went there weren’t a lot of people. It’s also a higher-end restaurant, so expect it to not be filled. Especially in a place like KL with so many affordable Indian food options. However, none hits like this one!
Service: Service was great overall. Our food arrived promptly, the servers were kind and attentive. However, so my personal pet peeve is people having an entire conversation with me especially in a language I am not too comfortable with? When I eat, I prefer that I am only spoken to when necessary unless it’s the manager or owner getting feedback. But again, I do feel this depends person-to-person. They also sent over sweets since it was my mother’s birthday, that was a beautiful addition to our meal and experience.
Food: I really can’t stop raving about the FOOD! The food is luxury in your mouth. I mean obviously since it’s and Indian fine dining experience. The flavours are authentic and subtle. The food is cooked so well and the first bite had us enamoured. I sent my regards to the chef at the end of the meal because it was so complete? Like when you finish eating and it feels like the world just gave you the best gift.

We ordered paneer butter masala, butter naan, chole bhature (the bhaturas were made of ragi so it was actually super healthy which was a new experience), spinach ravioli (their fusion dish- you MUST try it. If you love pasta and Indian food it’s a match made in heaven), and finally mango lassi. They also sent some chocolates and Gulaab Jamun, and I highly recommend getting some sweets for the full Desi experience.
Posh Pal Pointers:
Be sure to mention your spice tolerance when you go to ANY desi restaurant. I am not big on spicy food so that’s saved me a lot of bad experiences. This particular restaurant is definitely more catered to a western audience so you can also tell them to increase spice if that’s what you like.
ALSO – This is a fully vegetarian restaurant, but it’s well worth going to!
